12 Angry Men

Can anyone believe this? An entire movie, which is shot inside  a single room would become one of the classics, and yet become a top grosser?  Can a 1957  movie  still be relevant?  Is that possible? The answer is yes, and the celluloid classic is 12 Angry Men from the director Sidney Lumet, produced by Henry Fonda, who also starred in the lead character.  In one word this movie just stripped off the American Judiciary.  The movie begins with the Judge's order to deliberate a case of a young man who was acquiesced of stabbing his own father to death.   The Judge asks the members of Jury to give an unanimous verdict, and the poor boy's face fades out as the Juries assembles themselves inside their room.  Except only one of the juries all the members decide that the lad is guilty. Only one man differs and he argues with the fellow members and eventually lead to the acquittal of the lad.  What makes this film so special and very relevant even today is the way it handles the charac

A House of Hope

Vallalaar Maanvar Illam is an humane endeavor by the disciples of Ramalinga Vallalaar, a sage who cared for the people’s hunger. Vallalar is known for his preaching against killing animals for food. He had formed a temple in Vadalur, and light up a lamp and named it Arut Perum Jothi.

His school of thought and practice of worshiping the light is called Sathya Sanmarkka Sabai. He has written a most wonderful Tamil Poetry “Thiruarutpa”. His disciples started to spread his ideals and moved around the nation, two of them reached a little pamphlet Mathur and started spreading Vallalaar’s message.

This is the origin of the hostel for orphaned boys in this tiny village, through with hundreds studied and reached pinnacles of their life.
The hostel has an 80G certification, which gives an added advantage of tax cut during filing the returns.

The Rotary Club of Pudukkottai King Town had planned to donate plates to the inmates of the hostel. When we approached the former member of the hostel who is now serving as a teacher Mr. Ramalingam, he had guided us to contact the President of the hostel, Dr. Ramdaas and the Joint Secretary of the Hostel Mr. AL. Chokkalingam.

Our Rotary Secretary Rtn. Vignesh had contacted them and fix a date for the welfare event. The event was chaired by our RC President Rtn.Dharmaraj Prabu and Secretary Rtn. Vignesh welcomed the dignitaries. It is really a star studded event for our   PDG. Gopal, PP M. Murugappa and the Assistant Governor Venkatachalam  were present at the event.

After the donation of the plates Joint Secretary of the welfare hostel AL. Chokkalingam, (also DGN for the coming year, 2020) gave an elaborate speech on how the hostel started in a very humble way and had grown into its present state.

When PP M. Murugappa was asked to deliver a motivational speech for the kids, he rocked as usual and completed his speech with an unexpended donation announcement! He promised to donate Rs.50000 on his upcoming birthday, which falls on 29 of this month. What a great announcement?  PP of RCKT is known for his benevolence and he had proved it yet again.

Undoubtedly  this project is one of the best projects of RCKT this year. I am really glad to be a part of it as the project director.
