12 Angry Men

Can anyone believe this? An entire movie, which is shot inside  a single room would become one of the classics, and yet become a top grosser?  Can a 1957  movie  still be relevant?  Is that possible? The answer is yes, and the celluloid classic is 12 Angry Men from the director Sidney Lumet, produced by Henry Fonda, who also starred in the lead character.  In one word this movie just stripped off the American Judiciary.  The movie begins with the Judge's order to deliberate a case of a young man who was acquiesced of stabbing his own father to death.   The Judge asks the members of Jury to give an unanimous verdict, and the poor boy's face fades out as the Juries assembles themselves inside their room.  Except only one of the juries all the members decide that the lad is guilty. Only one man differs and he argues with the fellow members and eventually lead to the acquittal of the lad.  What makes this film so special and very relevant even today is the way it handles the charac

Shaji's Call for Scholarship Programme

There has been much keys pressed on the pros and cons of social media, about how it is addictive, how it made us into a screen sticky generation, but you can never argue that the social media is  sin. As of our world it has its own dark side and bright side too.

When Facebook was first launched I was among the millions who had dived into it. In the initial years I used to type on and on about the things I wanted to share.

The initial furry lasted few years, and I started to look around. In one particular post I had written about a freedom fighter who had not been recognized by the masses I received an unexpected comment.

A Facebook friend of mine commented on the post, that was odd, nobody cares for the unsung heroes of freedom struggle. The comment was from my friend Shajahan  kept itching me, and I asked him how did you know about the freedom fighter?
Shajahan Ji
He replied very coolly, my ancestors took part in the freedom struggle.

I was dumbfounded, all the time I was boasting that I was the one of the few who knew more about freedom fighters of India. How foolish I was!

Later I came to know Mr.Shajahans social activity, and his posts always talked about tolerance and the need for humanity. At least in a couple of weeks his Facebook posts would end up in Tamil Hindu columns.

His writing on Kamaraj Memorial and Rafale Deal were on Hindu too.

Apart from all these Shaji holds a place that no other Facebooker can reach. Every year he helps hundreds of young Indians to pursue their educational dream. With out Shaji they would never fulfill their education.

And the reply he gets from his friends!
One of my pupils whose family was stuck with misfortune turned to me for help, I just asked Shaji for help. Now she is a graduate and preparing for her competitive exams.

As the new educational year is around the corner,  Shaj called his friends to help him to sponsor his scholarship programme, and the results were amazing, showing that love for the fellow human being is not dead yet.

If you want to join the movement you are free to join. All you have to do is to inbox Mr.Shaji about your willingness to take part in the programme, and the amount you are willing to provide.

Later Shaji will give you the details of the needy student and his/her account number so that you can transfer the amount.

For your understanding I have over simplified the process, actually Shaji thoroughly checks the background of the students he is helping and verify the need. Most of the times the money directly goes the educational institutes account.

No foul play here, it is time tested, time honoured tradition of Shaj and his friends.

By Almighty's grace I would like to enroll myself in the humane process.

Shaji is a very great inspiration for us.

In the first picture I have shared the open call made by Shaji for the scholarship programme, and the next picture is the response he gets from his friends. His friends have agreed to donate  rupees 1,72,500(one lakh and seventy two thousand and five hundred) today.

As my share I have asked popular personalities of Pudukkottai to join the movement.

The following are the wrappers of Shaji's books, yes he is a great author.

Sakkara Kathalan and Ithu Madathuk Kulathu Meenu
These books are about his travel and his child hood memories of Tamil Nadu.

Breast Cancer
This book speaks about breast cancer, and creates an awareness among the readers.
Quit Smoking

Shaji himself was a chain smoker once, this is his firsthand experience on biding adieus to smoking.

These books are not for profit, the sales they generate will go to the scholarship  programme!

It is good to let you know, finally it would be perfect to complete this post with Shaji's favourite line.

Lets sow the seeds of love on our path today, Let someone reap its benefit tomorrow.
