12 Angry Men

Can anyone believe this? An entire movie, which is shot inside  a single room would become one of the classics, and yet become a top grosser?  Can a 1957  movie  still be relevant?  Is that possible? The answer is yes, and the celluloid classic is 12 Angry Men from the director Sidney Lumet, produced by Henry Fonda, who also starred in the lead character.  In one word this movie just stripped off the American Judiciary.  The movie begins with the Judge's order to deliberate a case of a young man who was acquiesced of stabbing his own father to death.   The Judge asks the members of Jury to give an unanimous verdict, and the poor boy's face fades out as the Juries assembles themselves inside their room.  Except only one of the juries all the members decide that the lad is guilty. Only one man differs and he argues with the fellow members and eventually lead to the acquittal of the lad.  What makes this film so special and very relevant even today is the way it handles the charac

Angels of Love - Aanman

Aanman with coolers in the middle along with Eniyan and friends

Aanman, a well known Tamil poet, and a coir products exporter is extremely popular for his noble gestures towards the disaster struck community. When Kerala was torn into pieces Aanman moved in the eye of the storm. I remember the Facebook post of his claiming that   he is moving towards Pattinam Thitta, and I wondered who is this guy and why is he doing this.

But in the next couple of weeks my wonderment grew into bewilderment and I was left awe struck by his venture. He was in Kerala for almost two months I think. It is very very strange that all the officials and Legislative Assembly  Members cooperated with him. A scene you can never expect in Tamil Nadu, where you will be robbed and the material you collected will be stamped with the ruling party leaders figures and then they will be dumped in some unknown storage facility for future use!

But in Kerala Aanman received a hero's welcome and taken to family tea parties, celebrated for his daring venture. He carved his name very strongly into the minds of us who adore him. I happened to meet him in flush at the Educational Right Conference held at Trichy. He was accompanied by Aak. Kareem one of the most powerful writers of Tamil.

Then came Gaja, wrecked havoc around delta region, and I was one among the afflicted. We lost power, got our houses flooded endured a horrible ordeal. When the power came back on I noticed Aanman, he was busy helping the delta people, reaching the unreachable corners, offering shoulders to cry on, helping to reconstruct the disaster struck lives. What a noble deed was that!

It is not necessary to mention that his commander, Shajahan from New Delhi backed him up from every possible means.

Even in this Covid wrecked days Aanman is busy supplying food to the hungry souls around Chennai and assisting hunger fighting activities around Tamil Nadu.

Part of the work carried out by Aanman and his friends are shown in the following pictures.
